Bill Stanisich painting selected for the de Young Open exhibition
Bill Stanisich, a lifelong San Fransisco artist and educator, has had one of his paintings chosen for exhibition at the de Young Museum in San Francisco. The painting is entitled Massacre Orlando Pulse Bar. It commemorates the 2016 hate crime in which 49 souls were killed and 58 wounded, the deadliest single mass shooting to that point in US history.
“I chose a line from Coleridge’s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner,” explained Stanisich, ”to envision the transmogrification of the souls, ‘whizzing to bliss or woe‘—after this violation of humanity, a bigoted crime in brazen color.”
The exhibition will run from October 10th to January 3rd. Celebrating the de Young museum’s 125th anniversary, The de Young Open reserves the Herbst gallery for the juried community art exhibition of submissions by artists who live in the nine Bay Area counties.
Bill’s piece was shown in Gallery #1 … the first one you see upon entering the exhibit. Learn more or buy tickets if you are in the area.
