Announcing Exciting New Features for Yale1969.org
To enrich our lives now that COVID constrains travel and large social events, your Class Council and its leaders announce today some exciting new developments:
- New Home Page. The format of the old home page worked for the reunion. The new one (check it out!) is easier to read and can more flexibly support some plans going forward. Readers like how it shows the “excerpt” for every post, shown in reverse chrono order. Click on tags and notice how posts sort by category. (If you want to find an old post, use the search box in the masthead. Click-thru to the full length posts that interest you.
- Newsletter. The newsletter will become slightly more frequent and simplified. Basically the newsletter is a compilation of post “excerpts” of posts published since the last newsletter.
- Class Colloquia. These have been very popular, and we have three more exciting ones coming up soon, Michael Medved and Professor Daniel Markovits and one more. Plans for 2021 are taking form. Got any requests?
- Having YOU Share Stuff; Group Emails. There are and were lots of small groups within the Class of 1969, and they have informally found ways to share things via email — pictures, links to articles, questions for discussion, etc.In May, we announced that Yale1969.org now supports “group emails.” This is a SINGLE email address like yourgroupname@Yale1969.org. Any member of the group can send an email to that single email address, and Yale1969.org will forward a copy to EACH member of the group.Six groups have set up group emails so far, and they are very popular. Contact me if you are curious or want to have one for your group. It doesn’t need to be formal. I set up one for my roommate and neighbors in JE, and some Branford Squirrels are now getting similarly organized. See “Set Up YOUR Yale Group on Yale1969.org” for more information.
- YOUR Group’s Zoom Meeting. The Class of 1969 has a Zoom Account, and you are welcome to use it for any Yale group. All you need is a “moderator” for the group; with some orientation by Wayne, the moderator can run the Zoom meeting. See “Using Our Zoom Account” for more information.
This is the first step in evolving this Yale1969.org website from a “magazine” with articles, to more of a “community center” where sub-groups of our Class can connect and extend/maintain their relationships. The website will show more of the contributed content … not just “News” and “Announcements.” And tools like group-email accounts and access to our Zoom account for any group from Yale1969 will allow more sharing in a less public venue than the Class as a whole.
