My Last “Annual Reminder”

Editor’s Note:  Tom Emmons is our Class Treasurer, and he is retiring from that role at the end of this month after many years of service.  Thank you, Tom!

This is a copy of his “annual reminder” to our Class.  If you haven’t paid your dues yet, please do so with your tax-deductible dollars using this link (or the mailing instructions) below.

Yale Class of 1969

Dear Classmate,

Re: Class Dues Solicitation

What a year 2019 has been! A hugely successful 50th Reunion, record attendance for our Class, a University record for a 50th Reunion Class Gift, a Class record for Alumni Fund contributions, a stunning Class Book, and importantly, a continuation of that momentum into post- reunion activities, such as an active and well-curated Class website (https://yale1969.org), and a regular Class newsletter.

Another recent record: Dues-paying classmates, up from a typical year of 33% to over 40% (still too low!) in 2019. Thanks to all who contributed, and please keep that momentum!
Keeping the Class kitty well stocked allowed us to finance pre-reunion preparations, pay for the Class Book, and subsidize overall reunion costs, making it more affordable (thus supporting high attendance), while still leaving enough money in the bank to maintain the momentum post-reunion.

Looking forward, we are reconstituting and revitalizing the Class Council (please respond to Art’s/Ken’s email with your interest), planning intra-reunion Class activities, and beginning to plan for the 55th Reunion, which will need a refilled Class treasury.

So, please contribute generously with your tax-deductible contribution to class dues. (You can also contribute online at www.alumni.yale.edu/dues/yc1969.)

And one more big THANK YOU to all the classmates who made 2019 a memorable year: Reunion organizers (Doug Colton, JP Jordan, Bill Newman), webmasters (Wayne Willis, Harry Forsdick), Class book editors (Carney Mimms, JP Jordan, etc.), Class Book publisher Art Klebanoff, Class Secretaries Art Segal and Ken Brown, Corresponding Secretary Dan Seiver, College Captains led by David Howorth, Class Gift Chairs and Committee, YAF Class Agents, etc. And to Jennifer Julier ’77 (honorary member of 1969), Assoc. Dir. of YAA, who expertly guided us up to and through the successful event.

As always, don’t forget to send information about yourself, for our class notes, to our yeoman corresponding secretary, Dan Seiver (seiverda@miamioh.edu).

Check our website regularly, watch for Class news, and begin thinking 55th, and some regional activities in the meantime!

I am pleased to announce that Ken Brown has volunteered to transition to the Class Treasurer’s position effective November 1, 2019. Thanks to all who have contributed over the last 15 years, supporting Class activities and making my job easier! Keep it coming! Thanks.

Sincerely,

Tom Emmons,
Treasurer, Class of 1969

P.S. A note on the difference between Class dues and gifts to the Alumni Fund: Class dues specifically support the activities of our Class, whereas annual donations to the Alumni Fund are used to address the most pressing needs of the University and directly benefit current students. Please consider contributing to both of these important appeals in particular in support of Yale and our Class.
