Class of ’69 Scholar David Yun, midway report

Editor’s Note: We like to keep abreast of what recipients of the Class of 1969 Memorial Scholarship are doing with their time as students.  Recently, we heard from the current recipient, David Yun.  We thought you’d be interested.  Hint: don’t challenge him physically!  Great leadewrship, too!

Hello Class of 1969,

My name is David Yun, and I am currently a sophomore in Jonathan Edwards College at Yale. I am working toward a double major in Economics and Religious Studies. I would like to begin by thanking you all for supporting my academic journey over the past couple of years! I had a phenomenal first few semesters, and I am excited to share some of the highlights from my time on campus so far.

During my first semester, I connected with fellow Korean Americans at Yale by joining the KASY (Korean American Students at Yale) board as a first-year liaison. In 2025, I served as the Outreach Chair, where I had the opportunity to connect with KASY alumni and secure sponsors for our various events.

Looking ahead to 2026, I am incredibly honored to announce that I will be serving as Co-President for KASY. Leading such a wonderful community and board is a responsibility I am truly grateful for.

Sports have also played a major role in my college experience. I joined the Yale Club Soccer team during my first semester—a feat I’m quite proud of, as the first team selected only seven players from a pool of over 80 hopefuls. Having played soccer my whole life, joining the team was a great way to stay active and build meaningful connections with upperclassmen.

Lastly, a recent passion of mine has been powerlifting. This past fall, I joined the club powerlifting team as a captain and social chair. It has been an amazing experience training and competing alongside lifters of all ages and experience levels, including graduate students. Over the summer, I competed in my first official meet and even broke the Texas state record bench press for my weight and age class!

Powerlifting has become a significant part of my life, and I look forward to staying deeply involved in the community.

Best regards,
David Yun
