DOING THE MATH
Reading through the bios in the class book alphabetically, I was stunned by more than a few revelations. One that really brought me up short came near the end, at V, namely Hal Valeché, who dropped this bomb:
“The conceit that ‘I’m not not old’ goes straight out the window when you sit down to put something in a 50th reunion book. Just imagine how we felt about the 50th reunion class when we were seniors. The Class of 1919, for God’s sake.”
Most of them were born in 1897.
Yes. it’s a pity I couldn’t find out more about that class. They did not have a 50th Reunion ClassBook, as we do. I had hoped to find something in Kingman Brewster’s papers that would reveal what he wrote about the Class of 1919, or said to them, at their 50th Reunion, which coincided with our graduation in 1969. Alas, I found nothing in the Archives. I would have included that in our Book.
We should get to know the Class of 2019. They will wonder about us at their 50th in 2069. Who were those 1969 guys, anyway?
Look at the photo of the 1919 class. I’d love to hear their stories.
