Fair Sustainable Society SIG Holds First Meeting; Plans Next One
In early April, I announced an interest in assembling some classmates to try to create a fair, sustainable society. See “Yalies for a Fair, Sustainable Society.”
Approximately a dozen classmates signed up to attend the first meeting, a Zoom videoconference on April 15th.
Editor Wayne Willis joined us and said that we could become a “Shared Interest Group” (SIG) and use some tools on Yale1969.org to help with communication. See “Online Shared Interest Groups for Yale 1969” for more information about SIGs for classmates.
The group of attendees had broad interests and the kind of depth that reminds you how much talent was around us as undergrads … often without our appreciation. At the meeting, we spent our initial time learning about the current views of members and discussing effective paths forward. We agreed to reconvene and to organize ways to improve and enrich our discussions with a view toward actually making a difference (as opposed to flailing or simply griping.) Our next meeting will be next Wednesday, May 13th, at 7:00 PM Eastern.
Webpage. As a SIG, we now have our own webpage on Yale1969.org. That way, any member (or anyone in the Class for that matter) can post something for sharing and possible comment or discussion. Check it out. The people who attended the April 15th session are listed as members.
Group Email. Wayne set up a group email address — fair-sustainable@Yale1969.org. Any email sent to that address will be forwarded to the members of the group. This group email will work like the class-wide Listserv except that “reply” will go to the original sender and “reply-to-all” will go to the list.
Next Meeting. I’m arranging for our follow up meeting to be held on Wednesday, May 13 at 7 pm Eastern, via Zoom. Register to attend here, please.
Send me a message if you have any questions: Douglas Leonard <1dl@charter.net> or call me at 860-377-4025.
I am looking forward to figuring out “next steps” with anyone who joins in. As you know, Doug, I have been trying to set up “web-based” portals or platforms for people to conduct some inquiries on their own about our current discouraging circumstance: “Learning in a Time of Global Lockdown: Self-Guided Inquiry Through “Transition-Studies.Net”” https://environmentaljusticetv.wordpress.com/2020/05/04/learning-in-a-time-of-global-lockdown-self-guided-inquiry-through-transition-studies-net/
