May/Jun 2005
Greetings, classmates. As usual, the end of winter is accompanied by numerous, and lengthy, submissions from those who are forced inside by the weather. This edition’s letters come from Chicago, New York, Boston, and Dallas, which can get volatile conditions. But, as you will see, our Dallas writer apparently has been skiing in Sun Valley, which leaves plenty of time for thought. Let’s get to it.
Richard Osgood wrote: “Life is a little different these days for me. Divorced for a second time, abandoning the suburbs for urban living in the Chicago loop; four grown daughters scattered about the world — Japan, Argentina, Russia; working on my fourth career (chief scientist, in small education startup company, check us out online www.intellishare.com). It was great to see many of you at our 35th. It is time for reminiscing.”
Richard Senechal submitted the following: “I left Wyndham International in January and have joined Loews Hotels in New York as senior vice president, facilities. Both of our daughters are officially ‘out of the nest.’ Ann, Y ’98, ’04MBA, is a supervisory associate with Ernst & Young in Dallas. Sarah, USC ’04, is the marketing and licensing coordinator for Porchlight Entertainment, producers of children’s television in Los Angeles. . . . Rather than trying to dispose of the accumulated possessions of the last 35 years, we have decided to keep our house in Dallas and maintain an apartment in Manhattan as our New York residence. Mary Margaret and I are looking forward to reacquainting ourselves with the pleasures of the city now that we’re a footloose couple once again. We hope to hear from friends in the New York area.”
Here’s a nice note from Irwin Sentilles, who did not make clear whether we were all invited to Sun Valley. You might want to call him. “Loved reunion. Thanks to all in charge. The year’s other highlight was our daughter Sarah’s (Yale ’95, Pierson College) wedding in September in Sun Valley. The nest in Dallas is empty (‘baby’ Della is a junior at Yale in Silliman), but we can still fill the house in Sun Valley, which is great fun. I’m studying fly-fishing and cross-country skiing in preparation for retirement (once all the educations and weddings are paid for). Also reading political theory now, trying to figure out why Ann and I feel so out-of-step with so much of the country.” (There are many of your classmates who would like to be apprised of your conclusions.)
Dr. Claes Nillson wrote from some backwater village up the road from New Haven. “We are enjoying being back in Cambridge where I am taking sculling lessons on the Charles, something I have always wanted to do. This summer Paul Abrams and I campaigned for Matt Flynn for Congress in Milwaukee. Despite a spirited effort, he lost in the primary. My wife Kathy is continuing to publish her poetry in various magazines and hopes to publish her book soon. This summer we also caught up with Ralph Swenson and his family. Ralph is continuing his remarkable avocation as a marathon and ultra-marathon runner. I have joined Yale Club of Boston and hope to arrange events for our class.”
And finally, Sean Kelly wrote to mention that his prior submissions have not been published. If I misplaced them I apologize, and I promise that his next one will get front page (first-mentioned status) if he chooses to write. Thanks for your letters. Keep them coming.
