Nov/Dec 2014
Your scribe has moved to central California. Some loose electrons fell out of the moving boxes, and I have finally found them. My apologies to Robert E. Levin. He reported via the web in January: “We welcomed Jonah Luis Henao into our family, our first grandson born to our daughter Amelia and our son-in-law Harvey. Despite having a Michigan/Illinois background, we’re hoping to steer him to become a Bulldog, Class of 2036.” Congratulations. The kid probably needs to get into Ivy prep pre-K now!
Central California is also home to Paul Severtson, who is co-concertmaster of the San Luis Symphony Orchestra, and a founding member of the Tolosa Strings Chamber Ensemble. According to his bio from the program of Festival Mozaic, Paul “has performed in numerous symphony, opera, ballet, and chamber orchestras; popular rock and roll and jazz groups; contemporary music ensembles; and as a folk musician with special interest in the Norwegian Hardanger fiddle. Paul is the development director at Public Radio KCBX FM.”
Don’t forget the biennial pre-Harvard brunch put on by Lang Wheeler. A great opportunity to reconnect with classmates. This could be the year that Yale wins The Game. I will be there, with my white hankie, either to wave in triumph or to wipe away the tears. Been 50 years since our first one in 1965. Time passes, ever more quickly.
“Getting old is the second-biggest surprise of my life, but the first, by a mile, is our unceasing need for deep attachment and intimate love. We oldies yearn daily and hourly for conversation and a renewed domesticity, for company at the movies or while visiting a museum, for someone close by in the car when coming home at night.”—Roger Angell
