Online Resources For Our Class

When I was asked to produce an article on online resources for our class, I was concerned that I would be mostly duplicating information that is readily available.  I decided that the best approach is to give an overview to what can be a confusing tangle of sites and links between them.

Here they are:

Yale Class of 1969 site https://yale1969.org.  This is the best site for:

For a set of links to a wide range of Yale University resources, click on Resources/University Resources, or go directly to https://yale1969.org/university-resources .  For the login-challenged among you, you can view and use that resources page without logging in.  For most other information, you must log in.  The site provides very clear information on how to log in or get a log in.

Yale Alumni Association site http://aya.yale.edu.  This is good for:

Much of the AYA site is open to anyone, but some parts require a login.  If you don’t already have a login, when asked, you can click on “First Time Login” to get one.

Yale Mail

If you do not already have one, you can get an @aya.yale.edu email account.  See instructions and information at http://www.aya.yale.edu/content/yalemail-faqs.  This service utilizes Gmail and is free.  If you have another Gmail account, you may need to sign out of it in order to get into your Yale Gmail account.  You can set this account to forward automatically to some other email address that you use, so you might not need to sign into the@aya.yale.edu email account once you are set up.

Class listserv

The class listserv allows you to send a message to all class members who have subscribed, or to reply to such a message.  You might either say it allows us to have discussions or that it lets us spam our classmates.  The Yale Alumni Association site currently has a message that there are technical difficulties and “we are currently exploring an alternative to the existing system for our discussion groups.”  You can check to see if this has changed.

Yale University site www.yale.edu.  This site is for all Yale constituencies and for the public.  There is no login.  Some of the things you can find on this site are:

  • Recent Yale news.  You can select a category of news to view, such as Arts & Humanities, Science & Technology, Law, etc.
  • Yale calendars.  This is in the plural because there are many sub-calendars as well as the overall university calendar.
  • Admissions – have grandkids to get in?
  • Yale libraries
  • Yale museums and galleries
