Mark your calendars for the biennial Lang Wheeler pre-Game bash: Saturday November 21 at Lang’s house, 48 Lakeview Avenue, Cambridge, Massachusetts. Start time is 9:30 a.m. All 1969 classmates and their fellow travelers are welcome. Catch up with old friends, meet new friends, enjoy tasty comestibles in abundance, and listen to live Yale music. And then, presumably, witness a Yale victory over the forces of darkness.
Tom Emmons reports on a 1969 New York gathering: “Over 80 people, including 25 classmates, assembled at the New York Yale Club for a class-sponsored event followed by a class dinner on March 7. The generosity and talent of Yannis Simonides was the centerpiece of the evening, with his captivating, one-man performance of Plato’sApology of Socrates. Yannis had generously contributed this performance to the Yale Alumni Fund, and the class built a benefit performance and class dinner around it. The New York contingent (John Beinecke, Howard Newman, Steve Malsin, Seth Herbert, Norm Resnikow, Rick Lannamann, Tom Emmons, Dick Mackay, Subrata Chakravarty, Skip Hobbs, Tom Hood, Philipp von Turk, Bruce Volpe, Harry Wise, Bud Bynack, andJim Rosenblum) were joined by many out-of-towners who made special trips to see Yannis and other classmates (Scott Nelson from Cleveland, George Chopivsky from DC, Steve Rose and Eliot Norman from Virginia, Bill Call from Minnesota, Rich Huttner from Boston, Russell Osgood from Iowa, and David Tufaro from Baltimore). And Jean Bundy ’73, David Bundy’s wife, was visiting from Alaska and joined the group. In addition to the attendees, ten other classmates who couldn’t attend were generous enough to send contributions, adding to the financial success of the event. Other classmates wanting to honor Yannis’s generosity can send a check to Yale University, Class of 1969, attn: Jennifer Julier, AYA, PO Box 209010, New Haven CT 06520-9010; (203-436-8014, fax 203-432-0587); e-mail: jennifer.julier@yale.edu. It will be included in the net proceeds of the event, which will go to the Alumni Fund.
”The performance was followed by a class dinner, including spouses/friends, during which Yannis’s friends from Silliman shared remembrances, and old and new friendships and acquaintances were enjoyed.
“The next morning, George Chopivsky, class secretary, held a class council meeting (membership includes all interested classmates). The upcoming 40th reunion and the associated reunion class gift were discussed. Any classmates interested in these activities should contact George Chopivsky at gchopivsky@aol.com (reunion committee) and Howard Newman at HNewman@pinebrookpartners.com (special gifts committee).” Reunion co-chairs are John Gazzoli (jgazzoli@aol.com) and John Nelson(jnelsonres@aol.com). Please contact them with ideas and suggestions for the 40th.
40th Reunion: June 4–7, 2009. Mark your calendar. Don’t miss it!
