Survey Nears Completion – Final Day: Feb 28th
Tom Guterbock, Ph.D. (SM ’69 and Director of UVa’s Center for Survey Research) gave the reunion committee an interim report on the Class Survey.
Over 400 classmates have already taken the survey, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. “Fun” and “thought-provoking” were the most common reactions. Everyone can sense that the aggregated results will be really very interesting.
Other elements of Tom’s report:
- The median time to complete the survey was 24 minutes.
- Additional reminder mailings will go out this week, and some telephone follow-up is planned. We are on track to have a substantial majority of the class participate, which will yield results that are nicely valid and reliable.
- The deadline for final submissions is Monday, February 26th at 11:59pm.
- The most common question that Tom’s gets is “Did you get my results?” People aren’t sure if they submitted the full survey correctly. Because the survey is anonymous, Tom says that there’s no way to match an individual response with a particular person. But he reassures such callers that each time they advance to a new page in the survey, the results are saved; so, even if they didn’t properly “submit” the last page, their survey will be substantially complete and will be tabulated.
- Again, because the survey itself is anonymous, each person who completes the survey needs to go to separate form to “opt out” of follow up messages. If you finished the survey and didn’t opt out, please do so now and save the Class from mailing follow-up postcards or making reminder calls.
The survey results will be analyzed and cross tabulated in March, and the final report will be published in our 50th Reunion ClassBook (which will be distributed just before the Reunion in 2019. There will be a panel discussion at the reunion itself, and there may be some interim reports on the website and in the newsletter.
