What Is The Dress Code?
Spouses and partners are asking, and some Classmates are asking, too: What’s the dress code for the reunion?
The Reunion Committee says:
Business casual-throughout the weekend, nothing formal.
For Friday Dinner-Men – coats, with or without tie, encouragedWomen – cocktail dress, Capri, pants suit, or skirt/ blouse combination.
My wife interprets this as “look nice but be comfortable.”
For the daily events, Casual is the order of the day, even shorts if the weather is warm.
The Reunion Committee is putting the fashion police on hiatus for the weekend, too.
Also, remind your partners that Saturday dinner will be followed by dancing to Plastic Visitation, attending the movie (Jonah) with Professor Andrew or just hanging out with friends. So, integrate that choice into your plans, too.
One wag suggested that he try to find the sport coat he bought from Goodwill in the Spring of 1966 and that he used to comply with The Coat And Tie Rule for dining halls. We dissuaded him from that. But he makes a good point: We arrived at a Yale where men were dressed by J. Press and Brooks Brothers; we left looking like The Grateful Dead. We can meet in the middle and enjoy the range, I’m sure.
When my wife read the part about the Capri pants, she nearly fell out of her Dior sack dress, and rolled onto the floor, laughing hysterically. What self-respecting woman in her right mind would even remember the Capri pant, let alone wear one? She pointed out that this demonstrates yet another instance of why Yale desperately needed to become coeducational.
