Dr. Paul Wilkins

Dr. Paul Cole Wilkins, age 78, of Charlottesville, passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2025. Dr. Wilkins died peacefully at the Hospice of the Piedmont due to complications sustained from a stroke two weeks prior.

Born on August 21, 1947, in Buffalo, New York, Dr. Wilkins was a medical psychiatrist who practiced in Charlottesville since 1976. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Yale University in 1969, distinguishing himself by winning the Albert Angier award in Psychology the same year. Afterwards, as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, he earned his Doctor of Medicine at UVA in 1973, followed by completing his residency in psychiatry at UVA in 1976.

Paul was a caring and compassionate human being who dedicated his life to helping other people. While he excelled as a psychiatrist, his true calling in life was that of a father and grandfather. He loved nothing more than spending time with his son, followed by his two grandsons.

He is survived by the mother of his child, Wenche L. Wilkins; his son, Jon C. Wilkins; and his two grandsons, Cole W. Wilkins and Clayton T. Wilkins, all of Charlottesville, VA. Paul is also survived by his sibling, Joan E. Wilkins; and her son, Lyle M. Swann of Winston-Salem, NC.

Every Christmas, one of Paul’s presents to his family was the donation of livestock made in their name to a family in need via Heifer International.
