The single most important and enduring aspect of my experience at Yale has been the maintenance of friendships that have now lasted 53 years. A group of us gather twice a year and those gatherings have provided, and continue to provide, memories that only long-standing friends can understand and share. Beyond that, occasional contacts with other classmates, although we have all aged and changed, carry with them a certain feeling that it was “only yesterday.” Yale is unique in many ways, but few are as important as the friendships formed there. Henry Durand got it exactly right.
