Maureen and Michael have been together since 1983, although Michael has been writing songs since 1965.  And it may be more of a lucky coincidence that her voice perfectly matches his material.

Michael has submitted these — a few of the many, a cross-section, as it were.  They were recorded at various times and places.

And from this vantage point, he views them “as a remembrance of dreams past.”

Tips For Listening: If you click on any song, it will play, and the next song will “autoplay.” If you want to save a song, right click on it and “save target as.”

Lyrics:

KEEP ON RUNNING GIRL

Raise your eyes, look at the day

Try as you might to keep it from sight, but it won’t go away

It’s like some kind of nightmare, like you’re somebody else

Even children are hard, every woman’s on guard

Every man’s for himself

So you keep on running girl right down the track

You just keep on running girl and you never look back

And just where you’re running girl, well you’re never quite sure

But won’t you hold my hand, ’cause I can’t stand

To run any more

Sky’s on fire and it’s coming for you

Did you think we could try to live all these lies

And have love remain true

Just taking that highway wherever it goes

Til it’s all blown away, there’s the devil to pay

And God only knows

So you keep on running girl, don’t you give it a rest

You just keep on running girl, like it’s some kind of test

And don’t you ever stumble girl, don’t you ask them what for

But won’t you hold my hand, ’cause I can’t stand

To run any more

If you can’t stand the heat, if you can’t stand the pace

Then get off of your feet, then get out of the race

But you’re running from love and you’re running from fright

And there’s no time to pause and there’s no will to fight

And there’s no one to hold you each day as it turns into night

Every night

So you keep on running girl, right to the end

You keep on running girl, to the road’s final bend

And when the final curtain falls, Lord it falls to the floor

Won’t you hold my hand, ’cause I can’t stand

To run any more

Won’t you hold my hand, I just can’t stand

To run any more

  1. Hi Michael
I just listened to this collection.
impressive! Tightly crafted lyrics and melodies.
My youngest son,30, also liked them.
I remember your singing and playing folk songs our freshman year. Glad to know that your music career has succeeded.
See you in New Haven next year?
    Best regards,
    Steve Webb
