John Gilman Fuchs – 50th Reunion Essay

John Gilman Fuchs

Date of Death: 13-Feb-1986

College: Calhoun

From the Class Notes archive: Gil succumbed to a heart attack, and is survived by his wife Marianna and three daughters Lindsay, Caroline, and Martha. At Yale, the Daily News was Gil’s ruling passion-he wrote about the events of the late ’60s with involvement yet with fairness. He also played a strong right fullback for Calhoun soccer. He served as a conscientious objector in VISTA, trying to bring welfare rights to Baraboo and Madison, Wisconsin. After stints in legal services in Hyden, Kentucky, and as assistant district attorney in Hudson, Wisconsin, he settled in St. Paul, Minnesota. In St. Paul, Gil’s practice included intellectual property issues, about which he published on several occasions. But his social commitment continued—according to a St. Paul newspaper Gil made a number of anonymous contributions to help Hmong families who resettled in the Twin Cities.
