Following Yale, tired of academia and deferring my Stanford Business School admission, I went into the navy as a supply officer, spending two years all over the Pacific. In 1972, I finally entered Stanford Business school, graduated, and began my business career in 1974 in New York City.

In New York City in 1975, I met my wife, Myotte, with whom I’m still in love. She has had the patience to follow me around throughout my business career (detailed on LinkedIn). After a few years in New York City, we moved to Rhode Island in 1979, where we had our two children, Anika and Janina. In 1984, we made our way back to the New York City area, moving to Chatham, New Jersey, where I worked in the city. In 1998, we moved to Westport, Connecticut; 2001 to Denver; 2007 back to New York City—all for interesting business opportunities. Throughout, I developed an expertise in IPOs and financial management, especially real estate. I retired in 2011 but un-retired in 2014 to help take another real estate company public. Presently looking to re-retire.

All the while, my children developed very nicely with my wife’s excellent support in Chatham, New Jersey. We traveled extensively throughout Europe and the Caribbean as they grew. Both children showed excellent sports and academic success gaining all-state NJ or CT honors in track and field and soccer and attending and graduating Yale (eldest) and Emory (youngest). They competed effectively at Yale and Emory and, at one point, each held the school record in the 4 × 400 meter relay that matched the one I still hold at Yale along with my teammates Chuck Hobbs (’69), Steve Bittner (’69) and Mark Young (’68). Following graduation and some work experience (my eldest was an employee for Bear Stearns upon its demise in 2009; my youngest worked for Teach for America), they attended Wharton and Columbia Business Schools, respectively. My eldest met her Norwegian husband at Wharton, moving to Norway with him where they both now work. They recently had a daughter. My youngest met her husband in NYC following graduation from Columbia. They now both live and work in Chicago.

My background in track at Yale and Yale in general has been meaningful in my life. My aforementioned mile relay teammates and our families have remained close over the years, attending all of our children’s weddings, for example. I have stayed involved with Yale’s track-and-field program as cochair of the Yale Track Association since 2001 and have remained in contact with many other teammates. I am active in Yale Club of NYC governance and grown to really like the book clubs there, learning things I never would have approached otherwise. Throughout, I have run for exercise simply to stay fit and have completed three marathons and six Hood to Coast relay events with the 12-man “Old Blues” team (’68–’80).

My life—a work in progress. Look forward to continued learning, reading and exploring.
