’69 will get a private tour of the Peabody – May 30th, 2 pm

Woo hoo!  Great news.  David Friend ‘69 has graciously arranged for a private tour of the newly re-opened Peabody Museum for the Class of 1969.  The museum’s director will guide our private tour, highlighting the museum’s recent renovations and exhibits.  David will be on hand to give personalized tours of the wing he donated — David Friend Hall.

We will meet at the Peabody and start the tour promptly at 2 pm on Thursday, May 30th.  Tickets are free, but registration is required.

A 10-minute walk from TD; meet at the north entrance at 2pm sharp.

In March, the Peabody reopened to the public after a transformative four-year, $160 million dollar expansion and renovation.  The new galleries, multi-media exhibits and refurbished dinosaurs.  It’s gotten rave reviews from early visitors.

You may recall that David donated his collection of exquisite minerals to Peabody back in 2017.  [See images of some of the pieces in “David Friend Hall Opens.”]  He advised the museum leadership on some cool, new technologies designed to enhance the educational and informational goals of all the exhibits.  He will be on hand to show any classmates around the collection and answer questions.

Tour Details: Go To The Peabody First

The tour starts promptly at 2 pm on Thursday, leaving from the North Entrance to the museum.  Because registration for the reunion itself doesn’t open until 2 pm, you should go to the Peabody first.  After the tour, you’ll have sufficient time to check in at T.D. and still be able to attend “Class Survey Redux” and “How Spirituality Is Evolving in the Class of 1969.”   Both of these Class-only programs are in Rm. 114 of Strathcona.  (Sheffield-Sterling-Strathcona Hall is the Gothic tower cater-cornered from Woolsey Hall, on the corner of Grove and College Streets.)  The Survey program starts at 3:45, followed by the Spirituality one at 4:45 in the same room.

The museum may need a list of attendees for our private tour, so keep a heads up for an email about that.

Not arriving in New Haven in time for our private tour?

There are additional opportunities to visit and tour the Peabody Museum throughout our reunion weekend. Alumni with their reunion badges can enter without tickets on Friday and Saturday mornings, 9:00-10:00 AM. Once you are in you can stay as long as you want.  Otherwise you will need to get tickets online here. (free).

  1. The Register Here link for the private Peabody Museum tour on Thursday of our 55th Reunion for Class 0f 1969, is missing on the announcement “Class announces private tour of the new Peabody Museum – May 30th, 2pm.” Please correct this. Thanks
