Upcoming Yale-Harvard Weekend Proves Popular

Over half the 100 tickets that Lang Wheeler secured for us are now sold. And a waiting list is forming for more tickets once the “max 2 per Classmate” restriction is lifted on 9/15/2018.

If you are thinking about coming to The Game, I’d urge you to move quickly.   November 17 seems like a long way away, but those three months will go fast, and tickets won’t last.  Order your tickets here.

There are some interesting patterns to the early ticket-buyers.

  • One spook has a number of people coming.
  • Several members of the football team, which will be part of some 50th-anniversary recognition of the 29-29 tie during halftime, will attend.
  • A small group from JE will be coming in from out of town and making a full weekend of it.  (See “Hotel Plans” below!)
  • A goodly number of people are coming by themselves (with and w/o spouse).  They’ll be seated with their college unless they request other arrangements.

Brunch

Most of the people coming to The Game are also coming to the brunch beforehand.  As Brian Dowling pointed out, there is no place to tailgate near Fenway — so, convening this close to Fenway for brunch is a great way to party beforehand.  (Our venue, The Hawthorne, in right next to the Kenmore Square “T” stop, and a mere 3 blocks from Fenway.)  Those driving can use the valet service at The Hawthorne, too.

More information about The Game and the brunch beforehand is on the “Saturday details page“.  You can order tickets there — and learn about the musical guests we are inviting to the brunch.

Seriously, if you’d like to come — and especially if you want to grab some friends from your college, your team, your fraternity, your singing group, your spook, or simply your group of friends, just order tickets from the bottom of the Saturday details page.

We can re-convene at The Hawthorne after The Game to celebrate (or commiserate?), to warm up, to let the crowds dissipate before calling Uber/Lyft or taking the T, and to visit with Classmates you may not have been able to talk with earlier.  This is an informal gathering — not an organized Class activity (yet).

Hotel

I’m part of a small group of JE Spiders who have been staying in touch and convening occasionally since a fun weekend in Half Moon Bay in 2016.  I’ve been tasked with finding a nice-but-reasonably-priced hotel that is either walking distance to Fenway or on the “T” with easy access to Fenway (Green Line).   I have some proposals out to some hotels now and should hear back next week, in which case I’ll update this story with details.  Basically, I’m asking them to “block” rooms for our group at attractive group rates and hold them until Oct. 15th.  That way, out-of-towners can have a lovely, reasonably priced, conveniently located place … and other Yale ’69ers will be there, too.  (Party plans to be announced!)  Stay tuned.

Don’t Forget Friday Night

Obviously, Saturday is a day full of activities — brunch, The Game and après-Game drinks and noshies.  But Friday night has two events — a dinner and the Yale-Harvard joint Glee Clubs concert — at Harvard Square that has proved to be fun, too.  See the Friday details page for more information and to order tickets.
